dc.description.abstract | Reviews the book, Sleep Medicine: A Comprehensive Guide to Its Development, Clinical Milestones, and Advances in Treatment, edited by Sudhansu Chokroverty and Michel Billiard (see record rid]2015-42798-000/rid]). This book is a comprehensive guide to the field of sleep medicine that extensively covers all aspects of the field, and as such can be thought of and used as an encyclopedia to this field. Even though the book is mainly grounded in Western medicine, one of its main strengths is that the authors cut across time periods and geographical locations. It is relevant to medical practitioners as well as clinical and health psychologists; it covers sleep disturbances in both somatic and psychological/psychiatric disorders, and includes chapters on women’s health and pediatric sleep medicine. The chapter authors hail from institutions all around the world, giving the book a balanced international outlook. It is a book suitable for those who want to acquire a considerable breadth of knowledge on the subject of sleep medicine. For those who require more depth into the subjects reviewed, each chapter ends with a long list of references, which may direct the reader towards further reading.
