Multimedia technology in pediatic surgical education, i.e. CD-ROM 'routine operations in pediatric surgery'

Abstract

The existence and future of every scientific area is directly dependent on advanced education and the quality of work performed. The aim was to develop a program in order to improve education in pediatric surgery and to ensure quality of the work performed by any surgeon operating on children. We developed a module containing extensive information on pathogenesis, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment plans as well as OR-videos and case reports on the most common routine procedures in pediatric surgery. This CD-ROM is now available and can be installed on every PC without special computer knowledge. The expansion and up-dating of the material is technically achieved with the help of an authoring tool.
