dc.description.abstract | In recent years, efforts have been made to preserve the spleen after hilus injuries, especially in children. In an endeavour to preserve the upper splenic pole (USP), we dissected the arterial vessels of the spleen-stomach-pancreas region on cadaveric prospected specimens from the gross anatomy teaching course. We also endeavoured to elucidate the contribution of the short gastric arteries to the vascular supply of the USP. In 56.7% of the 30 specimens examined we identified a branch of the splenic artery arising before the splenic hilus and supplying the USP. A case of successful preservative splenic surgery is discussed. © 1986 Springer-Verlag. | en |
