dc.description.abstractCompact phase-shifting lines are presented that are based on negative-refractive-index transmission-line (NRI-TL) metamaterials and which are implemented using co-planar strip (CPS) technology. The metamaterial lines are fully-printed on a single substrate and employ parallel-plate series capacitors and meandered-strip shunt inductors. The lines are designed to incur a 0° insertion phase at the design frequency of 5 GHz, and to operate in the slow-wave regime. It is shown that for a 10 unit-cell metamaterial line with a total length of 100 mm (> 2λg), only 0.05% of the power loss is due to radiation, making it well suited for guided-wave applications. © 2016 IEEE.en
