On May 21 2012, in Thessaloniki, an international conference took place on the “Issues of Estoppel and Res Judicata in Anglo-American and Greek Law”. This volume includes the papers presented at the conference, preceded by a general introduction to the institutions of Estoppel and Res Judicata by Assoc. Prof. Georgios Diamantopoulos and followed by presentations by Prof. Neil Andrews (res judicata and finality), Prof. Kalliopi Makridou (principles of preclusion and res judicata), Dr Marcos Dracos (estoppel in english contract law) and Assoc. Prof. Georgios Diamantopoulos (judicial estoppel). The comments made during the conference are also included, while the volume concludes with a summary of the conferenceʼs findings formulated by Prof. Kalliopi Makridou. The doctrines of estoppel and res judicata show the different procedural philosophies in the common law and civil law systems of civil justice but, despite the difficulties, comparative research works for harmonizing procedural systems.en
