This paper aims to be an approach to one of the first reports that refers to the Carnival rites that take place, even today, in Greece. The text of Bizyenos about the festivity of the kalogeroi is a clear manifesto about the consideration of this festival as a ritual with very ancient origins that roots in the fertility cult rituals and the mystery cults of Antiquity. Also they are linked, therefore, with the cults of Dionysus, Demeter, Persephone and Cybeleen
