dc.description.abstractWe derived the criteria for the validity of the effective two-state picture of bridge-mediated electron transfer for a one-electron many state system. The leading error associated with the two-state reduction is calculated. Our Green function analysis connects the time and energy domains. It gives a precise interpretation of the Löwdin diagonalization technique and the tunnelling energy in terms of the time evolution of the purely electronic part of the electron-transfer probability. © 1993.en
