The highly efficient spin filtering of ballistic electrons in hybrid spin valve/semiconductor (SC) structures was discussed. It was found that the photocurrent was dependent on the relative alignment of the light helicity with the ferromagnetic (FM) layer magnetization. A 2400% increase in the helicity dependent photocurrent was also observed when the spin valve was switched from parallel to antiparallel alignment. The results show that the spin valve has the capability of detecting a small spin imbalance of the current flowing from the SC into the FM.en
