In this chapter I revisit post-Piagetian research on social interaction and cognitive development. The research presented takes as its point of departure Piagetian theorizing and the socio-political context that made the emergence of a first line of research possible back in the 1970s, largely drawing on oral historical accounts of the protagonists of this first line of research, Willem Doise, Anne-Nelly Perret-Clermont and Gabriel Mugny, and focusing on the development of the influential work of Anne-Nelly Perret-Clermont. In the end of the chapter I discuss how this work influenced a particular strand of a third generation of research initiated in Cambridge and currently continued in the University of Cyprus. This last strand of research integrates social identity dynamics and social representations into the study of social interaction and cognitive development and it can be seen as building on the common vision of a genetic social psychology of major figures of European social psychology. © 2014 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
