Heterotopic intraperitoneal autotransplantation of the distal pancreatic segment has been shown to be useful in examining a variety of technical aspects of pancreas transplantation. Pancreatic segments that have free drainage ligated or polymer injected ducts have been examined. A paucity of long-term follow-up prompted this report on the morphological and functional characteristics of free-draining autografts in beagle dogs who have survived longer than 24 months.
