We examine the role of chief executive officers (CEOs) in the context of firm environment-related decisions and argue that CEO perceptions of the importance of stakeholders in environmental decision-making are related to firm environmental performance. We empirically test the relationship between perceptions and outcomes using data on US Fortune 500 company CEOs and their firms. Our findings indicate that CEO perceptions are positively related to firm environmental performance. Our results highlight the possible power of perceptions and help strengthen the link between individual perceptions and firm outcomes discussed in extant literature. ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]en
