Large-eddy simulations (LES) of oscillating turbulent boundary layers, over a rippled bed, subjected to frame rotation are presented. This flowis archetypal of a bottom-ocean, tidally driven boundary layer developing over sand dunes. Aforcingtype immersed boundary method (IBM) is used to represent the solid bed and the filtered structure function model for the sub-grid stresses. Three different rotation patterns were examined, each one corresponding to different geographic latitudes. The effect of ripples was found to significantly modify the elliptical patterns and the phase of the Ekman layers generating between the ripple crests. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.en
