The anchoring and orientation of liquid crystal (LC) molecules are influenced by several parameters. This paper presents theoretical work that aims to explain how surface changes and potential due to corrosion, affect the LC orientation and anchoring. This work is done with a view of enabling the design and development of a LC based corrosion sensor. Copyright © 2010 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Thin liquid crystal film for corrosion sensing
Kossivas, F.; Kyprianou, Andreas (2008)The anchoring energy of Liquid Crystals (LCs) is influenced by several parameters. Many scientists have exploited LCs anchoring in order to develop several LC based optical sensors. This paper proposes and proves a new ...

Measurement of liquid crystal film thickness using interferometry
Kossivas, F.; Kyprianou, Andreas (2010)Thickness measurements of thin films having thickness less than 1 µm are difficult to obtain by an interferometer. These difficulties arise from the overlap of the fringes from the upper and lower surfaces of the thin ...

A systematic study of the nitridation of SnO 2 nanowires grown by the vapor liquid solid mechanism
Zervos, Matthew; Othonos, Andreas S. (2012)SnO 2 nanowires (NWs) with diameters of 50 nm and lengths ≥10 μm have been grown at 800 °C on 1.0 nm Au/Si(001) via the vapor liquid solid mechanism and the low pressure chemical vapor deposition. These exhibited clear ...
