In the present work, PbTe and PbTe with Pb precipitates have been synthesized by low temperature synthesis. Selected materials were ball milled in order to explore the potential of this processing. The initial materials and the ballmilled powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction technique in order to evaluate the purity of the as-prepared materials as well as estimate the crystalline size of the ball-milled samples. Their thermoelectric properties were measured on sintered pellets in the temperature range 2≤T≤350°K in order to investigate the effect of low temperature synthesis, Pb precipitates and ball milling on these properties. © 2012 American Institute of Physics.
