The ECJP involved cross-border dialogue on the application of EU and ECHR standards to arrest, detention, prosecution, trial and criminal sanctions in cross border situations in the context of judicial cooperation in fighting transnational crime. Our four target countries were the UK, Cyprus, Slovenia and Croatia. As case studies these countries provided MS (MS) at three phases of EU membership (and one candidate country) and a combination of both civil and common law legal systems. Participation by neighbouring MS (namely Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Sweden) was also a key feature of our project. Including neighbouring states created a broader perspective as well as bringing together a wider European group of those who work on cross-border criminal issues, further facilitating future collaboration.
