This paper, proposes a generic active queue management (AQM) control methodology in TCP/IP networks, based on Fuzzy logic control principles. A simple, effective and efficient non-linear control law is built, using a linguistic model of the system, rather than a traditional mathematical model, which is easily adapted in different network environments (e.g. Best-Effort and Differentiated-Services architectures). We demonstrate, via extensive simulative evaluation, that the proposed Fuzzy control methodology offers inherent robustness with effective control of the system under widely differing operating conditions, without the need to (re)tune any parameters. As demonstrated, this is in contrast with its well-known conventional counterparts A-RED, REM, PI, AVQ for Best-Effort, and two-level PI, RIO for Differentiated-Services based networks, where the proposed approach outperforms all of them both in Best-Effort and Differentiated-Services architecture application scenarios. Furthermore, the proposed approach is applied without any retuning for the two architectures using the same Fuzzy logic controller for both, with the only difference being in the setting of the target queue lengths for different precedence levels in Differentiated-Services. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. A comparison of classical, neural and fuzzy control schemes for the position control of an underwater vehicle Neokleous,Kleanthis C.; Neocleous, Costas K.; Schizas, Christos N. (2006)A comparative study for the automatic control of an underwater vehicle has been conducted. The vessel was equipped with only three thrusters (one on top, a second at port and a third at starboard) for the control of its ...
Study of an adaptive fuzzy controller based on the adaptation of relative rule weights Sekercioglu, Y. Ahmet; Pitsillides, Andreas; Egan, Gregory K. (1994)An adaptive fuzzy controller models the qualitative control actions of a human operator. It is applicable to systems for which explicit mathematical models are not easily obtainable. Qualitative control actions are modeled ...
Fuzzy traffic density homogenizer for automated highway system Chien, C. C.; Ioannou, Petros A.; Chu, C. K. (IEEE, 1994)In this paper, a fuzzy traffic density homogenizer is proposed to alleviate or avoid the congestion by smoothing the traffic density distribution profile over the freeway. The proposed fuzzy traffic density homogenizer ...
