Τα πρόσωπα και οι λειτουργίες τους στο αφηγηματικό ελληνικό δημοτικό τραγούδι : από τα πρόσωπα στην κοσμοθεωρία

Abstract

Η παρούσα εργασία ορίζει ως γενικό πλαίσιο έρευνας το αφηγηματικό ελληνικό δημοτικό τραγούδι και ως ειδικό την παρουσία των προσώπων (δρώντων και μη) τις ιδιότητες και τις λειτουργίες τους (ενέργειες) σε αυτό. Στόχος της είναι να δείξει ότι τα κριτήρια επιλογής των προσώπων που πρωταγωνιστούν ή πλαισιώνουν τον πρωταγωνιστή στο ελληνικό αφηγηματικό τραγούδι συνδέονται με στοιχεία της ευρύτερης κοσμοθεωρίας του δημοτικού ποιητή που αφορά ζητήματα όπως η ανδρεία, η σχέση των δύο φύλων (αρσενικό – θηλυκό), η έννοια του ξένου και του άδικου και ο θάνατος. Η επιλογή του σώματος των κειμένων που αποτέλεσαν τη βάση της έρευνας έγινε με βασικό κριτήριο τον αφηγηματικό τους χαρακτήρα. Ακολουθώντας την παραδοσιακή ειδολογική διάκριση των τραγουδιών, το σώμα των υπό εξέταση κειμένων απαρτίζεται από τραγούδια κυρίως ακριτικά και παραλογές. Εμπλουτίζεται, ωστόσο, με ένα μικρό αριθμό από κλέφτικα τραγούδια που έχουν αφηγηματικό χαρακτήρα. Την ένταξη του κλέφτικου δημοτικού τραγουδιού στο σώμα των υπό εξέταση κειμένων επέβαλε η ανάγκη να παρακολουθήσουμε την εξέλιξη του ηρωικού μοντέλου. Αποσκοπώντας στη διάκριση των προσώπων που έχουν πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο στα τραγούδια από τα δευτερεύοντα πρόσωπα, που ενισχύουν ή φωτίζουν τη δράση τους, προχωρήσαμε σε μια ταξινόμηση των προσώπων με κριτήριο τον δραματικό τους ρόλο στην αφήγηση. Έτσι, τα κύρια πρόσωπα είναι τα υποκείμενα δράσης (ή πρωταγωνιστές) ενώ τα δευτερεύοντα πρόσωπα διακρίνονται σε αντικείμενα δράσης, αντιπάλους και μεσολαβητές. Στόχος είναι η ομαδοποίηση των πρόσωπων και ο εντοπισμός των κοινών τους ιδιοτήτων. Βασικό στοιχείο της ταξινόμησης υπήρξε η διάκριση των υποκειμένων δράσης σε θηλυκά και αρσενικά. Ακολούθως, απομονώσαμε τις σημαντικότερες λειτουργίες (ενέργειες) των προσώπων κάθε κατηγορίας εστιάζοντας σε αυτές που αφενός παίζουν σημαντικό ρόλο στο δέσιμο της πλοκής και στην εξέλιξη της δράσης, αφετέρου, αποκαλύπτουν, κατά την κρίση μας, καίριες πτυχές της κοσμοθεωρίας του δημοτικού ποιητή και κατ’ επέκταση του ελληνικού λαού. Δανειστήκαμε τον όρο «λειτουργία» από τον Ρώσο εθνολόγο Βλαντίμιρ Προπ και τη Μορφολογία του παραμυθιού. Σκοπός μας ήταν να επιβεβαιώσουμε κάτι που διαφάνηκε ήδη στην παρουσίαση των ιδιοτήτων των προσώπων, ότι δηλαδή οι ιδιότητές τους είναι απότοκες των ενεργειών τους και της στάσης τους απέναντι σε ζητήματα όπως για παράδειγμα η ανδρεία και η τιμή. Επιπλέον, υπογραμμίζεται η δυναμική της αντίθεσης ως μέσο ανάδειξης του προσώπου υποκειμένου και ταυτόχρονα ως δίαυλου μετάδοσης της ιδεολογίας του δημοτικού δημιουργού. Η λύση της κάθε περιπέτειας σχετίζεται με ποικίλες πτυχές της λαϊκής σκέψης τις οποίες επιχειρούμε να προσεγγίσουμε στο τρίτο και τελευταίο μέρος της έρευνάς μας. Τοποθετώντας τα πρόσωπα στον χρόνο και στον χώρο καταλήξαμε σε μια πρώτη σύνθεση όσων αφορούν τον κόσμο των αντρών και τον κόσμο των γυναικών στο ελληνικό αφηγηματικό τραγούδι. Αναφερόμαστε σε πρώτη σύνθεση γιατί θωρούμε ότι η παρούσα έρευνα έδωσε ένα χρήσιμο τυπολογικό εργαλείο προσέγγισης της σκέψης του δημοτικού ποιητή φωτίζοντας αρκετές πτυχές της κοσμοαντίληψής του με αφετηρία τη σχέση των δύο φύλων. Επιπλέον, φώτισε εκ νέου το πιο γοητευτικό, κατά την άποψή μας, ζήτημα του νεοελληνικού φαντασιακού, την εικόνα του θανάτου και τη διαχρονική αγωνία του ανθρώπου για ζωή.

The general research framework of this thesis is set by the narrative Greek demotic songs with a special research focus on the presence of characters (active and non-active) their qualities and their functions (actions) in the text. The thesis aims at demonstrating that the criteria for the selection of the characters who play the leading role or support the protagonist in the Greek narrative songs are associated with elements of the wider worldview of the poet on issues such as bravery, the relationship between the sexes (male – female), the notions of the foreign and the unfair, and death. The main criterion underlying the choice of the corpus of texts on which the research was based, was their narrative nature. Following the traditional genre classification of Greek demotic songs, the examined corpus comprises songs belonging mainly to the category of Akritic songs and the distinct type of ballads, which are termed ‘paralogē’. The corpus is enriched, however, with a small number of Kleftic songs with a narrative character. The incorporation of the Kleftic demotic songs into the examined corpus was deemed necessary in order to reveal the evolution of the heroic model. In order to distinguish between the characters who play a leading role in the songs and the secondary characters who strengthen or explicate their actions, all characters were classified based on their dramatic role in narrative. Thus, the main characters are the subjects of action (or protagonists), while the secondary characters are divided into objects of action, opponents and mediators. The goal was to group characters and identify their common attributes. A key element of the classification was the distinction of the subjects of action into female and male. Subsequently, the most important functions (actions) of the characters in each category were identified, with an emphasis on those that play an important role in the narrative structure and the evolution of the plot, while revealing key aspects of the worldview of the demotic poet, and hence, the Greek people. The term ‘function’ was borrowed from the Russian formalist Vladimir Propp and his Morphology of the Folktale. The goal was to confirm a finding already established in the presentation of the characters’ attributes: namely that is, their attributes are natural continuation of their actions and their attitude towards issues such as bravery and honour. Furthermore, attention is drawn to the dynamics of opposition as a means of identifying the character-subject and, at the same time, as a channel for communicating the ideology of the demotic creator. The denouement of each narrative is related to various aspects of popular thinking, which are examined in the third and final part of the thesis. Positioning the characters in space and in time, helped the researcher arrive at an initial comprehensive conclusion as to the elements shaping the world of men and the world of women in Greek narrative songs. The conclusion is referred to as initial because in the author’s opinion, this research study has provided a useful typological tool to approach the demotic poet’s mindset by illuminating several aspects of his worldview, using as a starting point the relationship between the two sexes. Moreover, the thesis highlighted once again an even more fascinating issue: that of the Modern Greek world of the imaginary, the concept of death and the diachronic agony of mankind for life.
