dc.description.abstract | Necati Cumalı (1921–2001) was a Turkish poet, playwright, and writer, whose family migrated to Turkey as part of the population exchange between Greece and Turkey following the Treaty of Lausanne (1923). He wrote mainly poetry, short stories, novels, plays, and essays. Cumalı was born in Florina, in western Macedonia (Greece), on 13 January 1921, and received his school education in Urla, a small town near Izmir, and in Izmir, where he graduated from İzmir Atatürk High School in 1938.
